I'll and My $.02 in this conversation as many people I know high tailed it out of the Va Bch, Norfolk area thinking it was going to be a bad storm went more inland like towards Emporia and Richmond, when they returned they told me they got it worse than than what Norfolk and Va Bch got and I was like yeah I told you to ride the storm out here.  So this tell me that it was not the innermost of the storm that was bad but that of the outtermost that was the worst hit.  The OBX was trashed because of storm surge and the sandbridge of Va bch was badly hit because of a tornado that touched down.  The worst of the storm was (and those from Richmond will tell you) was the outer rain bands of the storm.  Suffolk, Va got 15" of rain from the rain bands and that was the west side of the storm, so was this a hurricane or an extra tropical system?
