One thing to note about dropsondes is that the wind is not one minute sustained. I'm not precisely sure how long it is averaged over. Looking at some documentation on dropsondes, I see that wind is measured 4 times a second in what I think is the type of sonde they use.

I did some research on this a month ago but now I forgot what I found out. I downloaded the software that creates the actual dropsonde message (UZNT13) from raw data (the dropsonde takes a lot more data than available in the dropsonde message) and was testing to see over what time period the software averaged the wind data. I'll have to take another look. I have been working on my recon system for the last month and if I find the information I'll add it into the decoder. I have wanted to note that but have yet to find something that says definitely over what period it is averaged. I might just make some kind of notation somewhere that it is not one minute sustained, they are more like gusts. (though I think it does average the wind over a brief time period)
