Thanks. I'm going to add a lot more disclaimers to my recon system within the next month. I realized last night I really don't have much.

I did add the following disclaimer last night to appear on newly decoded dropsondes:

"Winds at a particular level are peak winds since a dropsonde only records momentary slices of data at each level as it falls through the atmosphere. These winds are not 1 minute sustained."

I've been working on my recon system for the past month and a half adding historic recon data and along the way tweaking a lot of the code to accept older messages. (adding tens of thousands of raw messages manually) In fact I have to write a new decoder to decode HDOB messages from 1989 - 1991 that were under the URNT50 format. (I found only one document online, from the U.S. Government Printing Office, that actually shows how to decode it, a 1989 National Hurricane Operations Plan) I only have a couple more storms to add to 2003 and then I will already have most data from 1992 to present for the Atlantic, East and Central Pacific. (excluding supplementary vortex messages)

Then I still need to review all the data for obvious errors. I'll probably write a program to recognize the obvious errors. Then I'll reprocess all the data. (So all the changes I have been making and any new disclaimers are added to all past data.) I'll hide the obviously incorrect data from being considered in the rows for each mission in the archive where it lets you know what the highest wind was for the mission for example. If the highest wind was 200 and the storm was never a hurricane, there's a problem. Of course I can only recognize the obvious errors. So will add some disclaimers throughout as I redesign the web based archive of the recon system. I can write an automatic program to do all that. I also need to update the mapping, the look of the archive, and maybe add some enhanced features to the front page that organizes mission data better. (I also want to add a possible Twitter account for recon next year too, http://twitter.com/#!/LiveRecon  , but I have not yet started coding that.)
