It's also about being in another country, where you can't easily know much about how well something is built or easily know what the elevation is even. (Do they have good storm surge simulations over there?) Also, I don't see why someone would be close enough where they know the first floor is going to flood. (He must have known.) As for going out in it and jumping in the pool, I think everyone realizes that was really dumb and the biggest problem I have.

It wasn't about the pictures of the dead, which I do understand in some cases, respectfully, can be important to document. It's hard to see, but for some they may need to understand the seriousness of the situation. Media can help with letting people know where there is immediate need.

I was talking about the fact that he could put himself in the situation where at least twelve people, if not more, died within 300 meters of where he stayed. I just can't believe he would put himself in that much danger. He must have known the danger beforehand of where he was.

But, the media could come later, they don't have to be there through the most powerful storms. I don't think there are a lot of US media that would go through a category 5 hurricane along the coast. (I think some people have learned their lesson at times in the past regarding lesser storms.) Maybe inland, out of the surge zone where the winds would have lessened some as well.

I would probably go to a parking garage for a lesser hurricane, but I'm not sure how well it could be trusted for higher categories. But he was not in a parking garage and it did not seem very safe. Perhaps other storm chasers there were positioned in much safer locations, although for a hurricane of this type, I just don't think it is worth the risk of taking that chance. But, I know you wouldn't take a risk like jumping into a pool. If someone is going to try it despite the increased risks, there are a lot safer ways than how he did it over there.
