I guess if some in the media see something that isn't in stock that they think people are likely to be buying, then some might say people are panicking. I haven't seen that described here locally. They have mentioned some things being harder to keep on the shelves but that they are trying to restock as they can. (other than masks) The media here seem to be really trying to get people not to panic. But in reality no one has really prepared for something like this, so it's not surprising they are out of some things like hand sanitizer in places. (though Aldi's here had a lot a few days ago) I've never bought hand sanitizer before. I bought a few bottles. I bought some extra soap. I already had quite a bit of can foods that I bought for a previous hurricane season. I have a lot of other various non-perishable food. Plus I have a large chest freezer in the garage full of food. Losing power and water isn't really that big of a concern, but I have a few large bottles filled with water and other bottles of juice and Gatorade.

As for masks, places didn't really have that much to begin with. How many would each store have to begin with, like maybe 10 packages depending on the store? 20? Doesn't take long to sell out. I think they are having trouble stocking that because they are trying to save those for medical personnel. The regular stores aren't getting more of that I'm guessing. Unless you have the right kind of mask and use it properly, it could do more harm. At some point it's best not to go out, unless you really need to, if it did get a lot worse. Masks would be best to use if you have it or maybe if you had to take care of someone that had it.

Not going to comment on this, but meanwhile...
