If this plane was struck by lightening, which is very possible, electronic malfunctions introduced to the gyro system of the INS (inertial navigation system) is a problem. The INS sub-system is paramount to the Auto-pilot system. There was electronic malfunction coded message or messages received by a body or bodies that monitor this stuff. They were also experiencing extreme turbulence from what I have read from different articles. If the plane had decended way below 35,000 during this turbulence period because the pilot was trying to take control of the aircraft, a microburst or large downdraft could have driven the plane into the deck (or water). The history of this model of aircraft shows that it has a tendacy to break apart in midair like the flight did over New York that crashed into a suburb a couple of months after 9/11. |
