Wierd start to summer in Naples

Naples has been nasty muggy. Today at 4pm we had a west wind at 15, air temp of 90 and a heat index of 108. That wind just moves the sauna air around. I can't recall seeing any stretch of weather like this with a steady severe thunderstorm watch and cell clusters racing south. All "summer" it seems like the west wind has barely laid down for more than a few days at a time since May. The waves and water were so high today that quite a few turtle nests washed in. We haven't really had a normal set up here with a sea breeze that pushes inland from the GOM meets the Atlantic sea breeze. I know that southeast Florida finally got out of the drought but we are still a foot below normal in rainfall.
What the heck is going on? I work on Fort Myers Beach and some of the locals have been saying that 2004 started the same way too. Let's hope that is just a bit of wariness and people trying to explain the out of sync weather... |
