I had something like that happen about 4 years ago where lightening hit a phone box (then I had dial up) and it blew the mother board in my computer.  I went to Walmart and bought surge protectors, they have them for cable in and out you can use that connection for Diret TV on the same strip it has for phone in and out telephone in and out and you can plug things in them.  I have one on every TV and it's accesories, every frig and etc.
