Could almost make a case for only one legit tropical cyclone so far this year

With the exception of Bill, the rest have pretty much been non-starters. Ana and Ericka had their terms ended abruptly by shear near the Lesser Antilles. Danny suffered the same fate in the Bahamas, and Claudette which may have had a better chance, formed very close to the Gulf Coast, and like the others barely achieved storm status. If we were back in 1914(before the advent of advanced technology), we might say that there was only one tropical storm so far. And I'm thinking now of 2006. Which was pretty much of a non-starter season. Eventually, there was tropical development that year, but it occured way out in the central Atlantic, where a couple of hurricanes formed in the mid to late Sept time frame. Perhaps that is our fate this year also. |
