Re: Could almost make a case for only one legit tropical cyclone so far this year

Now into the climatological peak of the season, and the situation across the basin is just ridiculous when it comes to tropical formation. And it looks like it gets even more hostile in the western half of the basin. I really though Ericka had a chance, boy was I wrong. That model which showed Ericka remnants heading toward Long Island was truly laughable. Maybe in another year, but not this one. Jake's right in that we might see a temporary set-up in mid-October which would favor a NW Carribean system moving N then NE into the E Gulf. But the window of opportunity will probably be very short. I think we may still see hurricane formation in the E-Central Atlantic in a week to 10 days, with no chance of making it across the basin, just heading north into nowhere's ville. For anything important to affect the continental US, it will take just the perfect combination of circumstances amongst otherwise hellish conditions in the tropics. |
