Well, I know people make fun of him but I follow Joe Bastardi pretty close ( I do call BS when need be on him) and he just put out a webcast yesterday entitled " O ye of little faith". In this webcast he shows the 500mb chart and shows why the season has not been much of anything. Of course it is the high that has been centered over the southern central gulf states much of the summer. He said the same thing happened in 2007 but he showed a 15 day future run of the 500mb ( I think it was the ECMWF) and that high finally moves over the NE United States. He then showed charts of the 500mb from 2008, 2005, 1999, 1985 and several more and those years the NE US was where the high stayed for the bulk of the hurricane season. He stated that because of this and La Nina ( usually a late starting season when one forms) this season will have a late start and a late finish. He thinks we will still be getting storms well in to October this year. He is still calling for 8 landfall strikes on the US from TS or Hurricanes. |
