Joe Bastardi is right

I think Joe Bastardi statement says it all. (Joe suspects the extreme heat and associated rising air centered over the South in recent weeks have been key in suppressing tropical activity of late and that once the extreme nature of this eases later in August and into September, that the lid may come off in the tropical Atlantic around the same time.)
That is what is causing the upper level winds to be so hostile and ripping the storms apart. Until the high pressure ridge relaxes from the south our storm season stays low. All the other ingredients are there for a strong if not record breaking season. I can't wait for this high to relax and cool us down in the south. It has been a brutally hot summer so far. The dew points are extreme everyday making the heat indexes unbearable. I think it is trying to break the high as we had our first small cold front come threw yesterday. The lower 90's are going to feel better today.
