Odds are increasing for a stronger than originally expected system along the northern gulf coast

Red Circle up over the keys. But as you can see (even on this IR) the upper level low is north of the keys. Until recently models had called for development further north (off Tampa) as part of the Upper level low working its way down to the surface. But now the main area of development would appear to be south (and more importantly, east) of the upper level low. Stormexpert mentioned this last night. The surface reflection might remain stationary a little longer as the upper low moves on to the west. I think this is what is happening in the keys right now. Shear will continue to decrease down there, and further organization should occur. So at this point I don't think we can rule out a strong tropical storm along the northern gulf coast later this week. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t1/flash-rb.html |
