Gaston's convection burst cooled down this morning, but a strong band as developed on the western semicircle during the last few hours. There's no question that dry mid layer air has worked into the center, which quite vigorous. He has been over some lower OHC, but the OHC increases as the cyclone moves passed 50W. This should be the trigger that sets off some development, as shear is low and some increase in moist layer air slowly works into the system from the south.
Lastly the diurnal pulse will have its say tonight... As stronger parcel ascent increases in the pouch area, thus causing a large scale meso-convection.
