The plane this morning had a problem earlier too. It had to turn back. (A new mission just reached the center.) The NHC discussion said it had avionics problems. I'm not sure of the other plane you mean unless it was the one with communication problems. It couldn't disseminate the data in real time properly. I forget when that was.

I guess they thought the Air Force had this covered other than for the high altitude jet. The P3's will be doing some research missions as well. NOAA's HRD page for Emily's missions:
