The forecast called for a TS to hit Florida back when the storm was projected to pass over Hispaniola and Cuba; the NHC repeatedly mentioned that intensity would be higher should the storm not interact with land as much as they then thought she would. You're making a false comparison.
Storms like Charley and Wilma define "rapid intensification." That's what made them "anomalies." As yet, this one does not. It may in time, though. I posted the other day about the historic danger the Florida Straits have posed those in a storm's path. That patch of water has been a breeding ground for many of the most infamous storms of the past century. Not good. |
