If you're referring to Ike, downtown Houston was very, very fortunate and open for business in 1 week unlike Galveston and other points E, and 'burbs to the N and W well inland.
Downed trees kept the power out for some time not far from the city center, but some of us never lost any utilities. A bit more windspeed and landfall farther W and our mostly pristine downtown would not have been.
I'm always dismayed, but not surprised when so many from the NE think 'canes are a 'Southern thing." I mean people w/more than a modicum of sense on a variety of topics - the most basic tropics terminology is like a foreign language and Irene is NOT on their radar, based on the chatter I've been reading on the interwebz. |
