James 52; Your mountain home that is 45 miles to the NW of Asheville; is it in Ten or Swain county NC. ? It has been a long time since a well organized TC has approached the mountains of western NC, SC, and Ten. from the direction that Florence is approaching. In fact, I do not know if a TC has ever made landfall on the NC coast and managed to travel south and west of the city of Asheville NC. TCs that make landfall on the NC. coast, and most that strike the SC. coast, have a very profound tendency to turn northward before reaching as far west as the city of Asheville. That said, it is not too uncommon for TCs to travel to the NW of Asheville and move into NE Ten.if approaching from an easterly or southeasterly direction.
According to updates from the GSNWS office in Greer my areas in my neck of the woods above 3000 feet, can expect wind gusts up to 50 MPH and a wind advisory will be in effect from 12 AM Sat. extending into the late PM hours of tomorrow. As for east Ten. I am going to assume similar conditions are expected. As you probably know, here in the mountains wind gusts of 50 MPH at elevations of 3000 feet and greater are a fairly common occurrence;particularly so in Spring and Winter. I think we will be okay, wind wise, and we will just have to wait and see what Florence has in store for us water wise.
