snow happens the end of Oct - I remember pictures of a Halloween blizzard that burried NE MN (think it was part of the perfect storm) & very early CO storms - snow somewhere in the US right now is not a factor in what the tropics are doing imho.

as of late, we've been having Sept weather in TX, though there is the cold front finally coming thurs to take us out of the high 80s

NOAA forecasts warmer & drier than normal winter for most of the south, supposedly a more accurate forecast, due to the recent NAM upgrade  (I've heard chatter that previous upgrades made it worse for the gulf & tropics, not sure?) http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2011/20111020_winteroutlook.html  with the AO as the wildcard

I think Rina will deteriorate earlier, rather than later - just my hunch, in part because NHC didn't let go of saying it "will reach cat 3" for over 24 hrs, and yet it never made it, perhaps for reasons they (or the models) don't fully understand.

shear tendency in the gulf is dropping tho, I might be fooled...

tropics look like Oct to me?
