A pinhole eye? Dude, it's a tropical storm, not Hurricane Wilma.

STILL a tropical storm this morning, I might add, despite all last night's hype about how it was ramping up. I see lots of people banging their cymbals about how warm the Florida Straits are. Yes, they are boiling. But until this system shows at least some ability to maintain convection around its center for more than a minute and consolidate the dozen or so vortices it's been juggling in every layer of the atmosphere for a week, you can put it over a hot tub and it won't matter.

I always say this here--warm SSTs and rich TCHP only are a fraction of the total puzzle that needs to come into place for a storm to ramp up. This remains a dysfunctional storm that only has experienced minimal interaction with the lowest peaks in Hispaniola thus far and yet still is a 55kt TS.

Thus far Isaac is the tropical equivalent of "failure to launch" syndrome. You would think that would change over the boiling SSTs of the FL Straits and the SE GOMEX, and it's wise to prepare for that possibility if you're in the Keys or SoFla., but I am, as I have been all along with this bizarre storm, skeptical.
