Re: the article on TWC did a better job

"The NHC's system for disseminating the forecast is archaic and relies on the media to sort it out and get it right, but the content was all there.

"In the Hurricane Center advisory, the critical storm surge forecast was buried toward the bottom of the text. In newspaper terms, that's like putting the main headline in the sports section . . . And nobody else has close to our resources."

Seriously, I had to laugh when I read this. Here in Mississippi, TWC does the weather reports for Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Listening to their reports in the days leading up to Hurricane Isaac's approach to the Gulf Coast, one never would even have known there was a storm approaching, let alone a huge tropical system and incipient hurricane.

That Sunday, a day or two before (at that point) the anticipated arrival of Isaac, TWC told us here on the Coast to expect a chance of rain due to "a disturbance" over the Gulf of Mexico. A disturbance, indeed!

If I had to depend on The Weather Channel to track storms such as this, I think I would live with my inflatable in the living room and ready to deploy it throughout Hurricane Season. Thank goodness for Cane Talk and all the other resources -- including the NHC advisories -- available out there if one goes to the trouble to consult them.
