Staying out of the politics of it, depopulation could be a small consideration. Every decade in modern time Pueto Rico has had population growth in the double digits, sometimes as high as 30%. Since 2000 there has been a migration out of Puerto Rico and it is hurting the economy. They are on pace this decade to have a population drop of 10% or more. A rapid increase would destroy their economy even more and accelerate the problems. |
