I just took a really quick look over 1880 to 1899 and nothing seemed to pop out at me. I might have missed it.

I saw several instances within about a month of each other.

The closest I saw was 1886 which had a lot of activity:

Around LA/TX border, just inside Texas on June 14th a category 2 landfall:

June 21st a category 2 landfall in Big Bend area of Florida:

Then June 30th another category 2 landfall in Florida Panhandle:

Then July 19th a category 1 landfall on west coast of Florida:

And just happened to look at 1879 and another close two landfalls.

August 23rd a category 2 landfall inside Texas, somewhat near LA/TX border:

September 1st a category 3 landfall in LA:
