Cypress thanks for the post good read yes we are very lucky.  I am wondering why there are more oil spills in the GOM?  Is it because there are more well in the GOM?

I found this interesting on the second site you posted: Q. What was the biggest oil spill in the world? Where and when did it happen, and what were its consequences?

A. According to the Oil Spill Intelligence Report, the biggest so far was the Arabian (Persian) Gulf spill in 1991. You can find very good overviews of the effects of that spill in the August 1991 and February 1992 issues of National Geographic magazine.

Beachlover "it only takes one major spill to ruin beaches for a very long time"  I know that is why in the 1970's Sea Camp (excellent camp) along with many others went to court or the state (and still are fighting) and fought so hard to stop drilling.  What you did not mention is the damage to the marine life etc. Sea Camp founded in 1966 dose a lot of teaching regarding the marine environment.

Tiny I heard that what you posted "a high pressure gas pocket may have come up to the wellhead or BOP (blow out preventers)." reported on the news last night.  Politicians still drive me crazy.
