When Life Gives You Oil, Make Biodiesel?

New Orleans needs wetlands to prevent 15ft storm surges from depositing oil all over the place in the next few years.

Will the wetlands grow as fast as they erode?

I wonder if the New Orleans locals could mix ash water (lye) and alcohol with the gathered crude oil to make biodiesel fuel and then dump the byproduct (glycerin) back into their wetlands to increase its growth.
