Aah.  2004 - the same names will be reused this year.  Actually 6 years ago today TS Bonnie formed.  Then things started to get interesting Aug 9.  Charley formed and devastated a lot of Charlotte County Florida on Friday, August 13th.  We boarded up my mom's house only as a precaution (she lives in Punta Gorda and landfall was supposed to be Tampa) and it may well have saved her life.  After the destruction I witnessed first hand I still find it difficult to believe that only 15 people died in Hurricane Charley.  Then came a couple of fishies, Danielle and Earl.  Bonnie, Charley, Danielle, and Earl were all active August 14th.  Then Frances was born August 25th and hit the east coast of Florida.  Gaston and Hermine actually hit before Frances but as a minimal hurricane and strong tropical storm respectively.  Then September 2, Ivan formed in a similar location compared to Charley.  We evacuaated for this one, though it missed us.  We had to go through Pensacola on the way home and saw that devastation too.  Then came Jeanne shortly thereafter, by far the deadliest of the 2004 season.  The only other US landfall the rest of the season was TS Matthew which was just some gusty storms, but the toll had already been taken.  The last storm Trpoical Storm Otto lasted until 12/5 which is late for the season to end.  All in all it was a busy season and we only had a Bonnie just develop on this day 6 years ago.
