Distressing story, Bateaux - can really feel your pain.  Good for you for making it through and taking care of yourself and your wife.  

I've often wondered  how in the world people who are alone or unskilled can manage during these events.  And as my handy husband grows older, I'm starting to wonder more and more......

But at the time of Andrew, I was still 'safely' living in NW Connecticut.   We had problems to deal  with there, too (blizzards and treacherous ice storms), but little did we know what we were heading for when we moved south.  Ha.
