Emergency management officials in Nassau say they've begun preparing emergency shelters and vehicles for a worst case scenario.
Nassau's Red Cross also says it has put all 50 of its emergency shelters on alert to be ready to take in evacuees, in case Hurricane Earl packs a punch.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano says the key to preparing for a hurricane is communication and coordination of emergency personnel across the island.
