Yes, Beaumont, everyone should have a plan, but the reality is that we in hurricane-prone areas are more likely to have one than those in, say, New York/New England -- and those are the people who are just not likely to be prepared early on and need some alerting and some help/direction with planning -- late being better than never.
As for generators, agree they're a great thing -- for everyone, that is, except us barrier island dwellers for whom storm surge will ruin the equipment (and most of us have living quarters - not space for generators - above ground level). Also doesn't help when the island water system is turned off for weeks after a storm - making evacuation and staying gone the best option. We've had this discussion recently on another thread. Anyway, my tough luck; if I lived inland I'd definitely have a generator (and we did when we lived in NW CT, where it came in handy during frequent snow/ice power outages). |
