I know the press up there, and everywhere else, is going to dive all over this to sell some papers or ratings.  But I really think the NHC and local EOC's could be put on the spot with this storm if the track keeps moving closer to the coast.  The press is going to use them as their prophets and their scapegoats.  If it should shift west then the press isn't going to mention how your local EOC prepared except for  a scroll along the bottom of the broadcast with a PH# and a puff piece with an official.  You might see a headline that says "NHC Forecasts, To Little To Late.  Local Officials Slow to Act".   If it shoots way East, their headlines may be "NHC Forecast Overblown, Costs Taxpayers Millions.  Local Officials Cause Panic".  It could be classic damned if you do damned if you don't. This thing COULD be at 30- 35N  and then COULD be at 40 or 45N in 24 hours or less at Cat 2/3 right along the beaches or worse. That's not much time.  So at least someone knows it's out there.  (I said COULD I did not say WILL before you guys jump me
) Hell we couldn't evacuate the Carolinas, Georgia or Florida for Floyd.  Floyd strolled compared to that and you remember all of that complaining.  I'd prefer those in charge to err on the side of readiness.
