Yes, I'm feeling the same frustration wiht my kids who live in Hatteras Village. I personally think the chance for this thing to go right over them is too high to risk staying on the island. But they both feel (as do mos tof the island residents) that they have to stay.
Dare County has not even issued a mandatory evac for tourists. I do, however, think they are meeting again this morning to further discuss the possibility, but there is only one way off the island and that is a two lane road which clogs wiht traffic on just a regular summer weekend.
And when the first overwash happens at Mirlo Beach (Rodanthe) which can happen with any storm with winds, that road is gone and everyone is stuck. |
