Oh how well I remember all of that. I have many friends and family living in Hatteras Village. The kids had to ride the headboat docked in Hatteras Village to school in Buxton. Medications and food supplies had to be taken to Hatteras by boat from the main part of the island. It was a mess.

Just heard a mandatory evac for all visitors on Hatteras Island- effective immediately. That's a good thing. It allows the emergency people and the residents to focus on themselves and their properties. I didn't know until yesterday that owners and property managers of rental homes cannot do any hurrican prep (such as shutters, plywood) until the renters are gone. If all the renters leave the island today, it will allow everyone who lives there to get ready as best they can.

Both of my kids live on the sound side of the island. There will be flooding on that side from the sound waters. They are getting stuff up off the floors as we speak.
