Tropical storm Kyle (1996) comes to mind, as one in the past, that struggled with multiple vortices spitting out of the overall rotation.  It never really got its act together and remains the shortest lived named cyclone on record.

This system doesn't even have a name yet.

The unforeseen problem, that I didn't see until this morning is a low spinning due south toward the system, over the central Atlantic.  It is really putting a damper on the northern part of the system.
