This was not much of a storm you could bet on...
Irene seemed to hug every bit of land she got close to... That makes it extra hard to forecast.
The models did OK. I got my pet peeves about how the initial conditions were all over the place....
But who would have thought we would end up hitting Atlantic City with 75mph winds at 958mb and New York with 70mph winds at 965mb?
Should we have expected the models to forecast low Cat 1 wind speed for a middle Cat 3 pressure near New Jersey?
Maybe the new models can't deal with the conversion from a warm core system to a colder core system very well.
