I have no idea what my advise is worth concerning hurricane preparations, I live in the Northwestern US.
I have always felt that there are business interests and politicians who downplay the hazards due to these hurricanes.
Evacuations cause losses to local markets, home sales near coastlines suffer from bad publicity and the perception of flood damage, and politicians always want to minimize any criticism of how poorly they prevented casualties.
I might be a little more objective or blunt with my selection of images because of my effort to counter this possible bias of the main stream media.
I suspect that I would be more conservative in my selection of images if I were to actually walk through an area where homes had been swept away due to storm surge.
Most local tv stations provide mostly uncensored coverage after storm surges, while the national networks do not.
What troubles me the most is when people wait until roads or bridges are washed out to try to evacuate.
I would try to be ready to go on vacation by Monday (tomorrow) because traffic might get heavy by Tuesday, and Wednesday might be slowed by squalls. But that's just me.
IMHO, odds are that people should avoid the Carolina coastline and areas inland that are prone to flooding due to excessive rainfall.
As always, please follow your official local advisories.
