Beachlover, thanks for thinking about me with this scary storm approaching. It is stressful in multiple ways. My sister is currently on a long road trip .... driving here from Arizona to visit me for the first time in many years so that I can meet the new man in her life. They are traveling I40 from AZ to Boston, MA and then down I95 to Florida. They are scheduled to arrive at my house in Alligator Point between Wednesday and Saturday this week. I hope I still have a house by the time they get here. They have a tiny dog with them and all of them are road-weary. Hurricane aftermath is not the sort of fun we were anticipating for our time together. I am not sure what to do. None of us have the resources to afford staying at a nice hotel somewhere away from the storm path. I think my sister must be a hurricane magnet. She is a widow now, but when her husband was still alive they took a trip to the FL keys so he could scuba dive ... a bucket list item. It was 1992. The day after they arrived they were forced to evacuate for Hurricane Andrew. They packed their dive gear and drove to Homestead where they stopped to eat and asked their waitress if there were any hotels in Homestead that she could recommend. The waitress firmly told them that they had to keep driving as far west away from the storm track as they could get before even thinking about stopping and that she was evacuating herself as soon as her shift at the restaurant was over. My sister and her husband did keep going for several hundred more miles and found a hotel to seek shelter. They stayed safe although the hotel where they stayed lost power. I do not like this looming deja vu situation.
