My dad saw one this afternoon and I saw this one shortly after too finally. But it had been a long time. I had been actively looking for them too this week. It was warmer today. We just haven't had really sunny days for awhile.
Usually when I go outside, just to check the mail, there would be lizards darting across the sidewalk. I always have to watch my feet so I don't step on them. That's what I finally realized one day, I was no longer having to make sure to avoid them. I also do that because many years ago I accidentally stepped on a black snake. He was fine and scurried off so fast I hardly go to see it.
Usually if I look out a window at the front of my house, there would pretty much always be a lizard, and usually multiple lizards. Sometimes they hang out at the end of the branch on a plant. Often you would see multiple ones doing that and then some would be sunning or chasing after bugs.
Only once has a neighbor seen either a big lizard or iguana. It was many years ago. I never did get to see it. A local news station here has a funny scale they have for cold weather, and one of the items on it is falling iguanas for when it gets so cold they get stunned and fall out of trees. (but they aren't dead, they'll be okay when it warms up, so I guess it's a bit of a public service announcement) While I guess it is mostly further south, I think they might have mentioned they are getting a bit closer to our area. Or maybe they are already here, there has simply been less so far, I forget. I'm surprised at some of the wildlife we have around. Last year it was a bear in the neighborhood. A few years ago we heard and eventually saw a lot of bunnies that live at a park down the street. My dad saw one bunny quite a bit last year while walking early in the morning around the neighborhood. A few days ago they had video on the local news of some coyotes that live at Tampa International Airport. I didn't know we have those. |
