On Air Force One the man in charge declared today is Gulf of America day while flying over the Gulf of Mexico. Fun times.
I do expect there will be some kind of change across NOAA's products. It's going to be a mess though. The northern part is now Gulf of America according to the U.S. only, the rest is still the Gulf of Mexico. So how will products discuss it? I don't want to point out particular products, but there's lots of products that reference the Gulf of Mexico. When you talk about the Gulf of Mexico, are you now talking about the southern Gulf or whole Gulf? Will there be penalties if someone writes a discussion talking about the northern Gulf of Mexico? Will they have to say southern Gulf of Mexico and then Gulf of America for the northern part, addressing both? So there isn't confusion, can they call it formerly the northern Gulf of Mexico too? There are so many products that reference the Gulf of Mexico. Lots. It's going to break things to make change like that. It's not just discussions but products that are designed, carefully, to be read by software that is ingested into various programs. If they have to have a service change notice listing everything, it will be a mile long. Will there be a public service campaign about it? Might be some very confused people when there are warnings for the northern Gulf of America.
It's all so stupid.
It's sad that radar is being decommissioned. I'll have to update my radar database. It was hard finding radar data working for those overseas NEXRAD sites often, such as the two in South Korea too.
It's nice that you found that information about your uncle. |
