Re: 45,000 gal a day leaking

Too right, Jim.  "Natural seepage" hasn't ruined the beautiful clear waters along our Emerald Coast, nor decimated the fishing and shrimping industries, nor affected our annual sea turtle and bird nesting seasons, nor shut down countless coastal hotels, restaurants, shops and myriad other dependent businesses via the domino effect.  This is not to mention what will happen to fragile real estate values only beginning to recover from recession.   People who have managed to hang on through it all could now lose everything they worked for all their lives.

No, natural seepage hasn't turned my daily walks on our gorgeous sugar white sand beaches into a sad effort to scrape tarballs from between my toes.

And you're also right, JW -- the thought of a devastating hurricane is even more frightening.  Already I've pictured, to my horror, what might happen if this leak cannot be stemmed for a couple of months and we have a strong early season cyclone that carries oil-laden waters over the barrier islands and inland on a storm surge.  Unthinkable devastation.

"Laughable" is, I'm afraid, much too kind a word.
