Actualy even the most powerfull hurricanes generaly would not be disatorious if only people would learn to respect nature and her power.Modern hurricanes in this nation usualy kill people via storm surges and inland flooding-flash flooding.Experts have long advised us against both costal and floodplain development;but in our incredible lack of respect for nature, we insist upon building and living in the very places that assure that awsome natural phenoumena,instead of being just that,turn out to be human disastors. Even major tornado outbreaks are generaly more deadly and destructive than need be, thanks to patterns and means of development which instead of reflecting a concern for human need,saftey and a healthy respect for the power of nature,reflect the undue and unnessacary influence of money upon practicaly every human endevor.Nature can not be blamed for the death nor injury of persons residing in, workinging in or visiting structures which are built in storm zones, but known to be unable to withstand storms of even moderate intensity.''Think mobile homes which house probably several million people in areas of the American south and midwest, which are known to be major tornado and hurricane belts''.
Absent severe cyclonic storms,volcanoes,seismic disturbances and fires,life on this planet would never have been possible ! Therefore even as we reach out to help those persons who's lives have been negativly impacted by the forces of nature,we should remember that ultimately those forces are the very powers which have made our lives possible to begin with ! Therefore we would be in error to not, feel a sense of awe,amazement and wonder at the aknowledgement of an approaching storm,the eruption of a volcano or the rumble of a seismic disturbance.Ultimately nature,given all of her destructive potential,is the source and substance of all life,creativity and meaning.It is foolish to not stand in awe in the presence of the very source from which life has come into being !
