Yes, the block set in just about the 1st of Dec.
I thought at the end of December it would dissipate since the High over Greenland moved west to Siberia.
However, it didn't last long and is now back in full force.
IMHO this is directly related to Deepwater Horizon.
SSH imagery clearly shows what happened to the Loop Current about 2 months after the start of the event.
Oil and dispersants could have a dramatic effect on the ability of the ocean to asorb solar radiation, disperse that heat, and transfer that heat to the atmosphere.
I have looked on the web for actual heat capacity and heat transfer coefficients for oil/water mix and couldn't find anything.
