You think JAC?
I'm more inclined to believe at this point that the negative NAO is having more profound impacts on global weather patterns in conjunction with the strong La Nina and then -PNA (at the time, believe it's trending postive now). If you look at a time series of NAO pos/neg phases, the NAO has been positive for a vast majority of the past 20 years. This, in conjunction with advacments in technology, observation and overall "knowledge" of natural climate variability is producing a year in which we can see how a -NAO works with a La Nina in an amplifiied system. Apparently, this combonation proves for a very chaotic weather pattern.
If people can't understand that AGW is producing higher impact storms more often and know the science that governs the physics of the atmosphere, then I wouldn't know what to tell them. Almost everywhere in the NE is nearly double their total average snowfall allready... even for the past 10 years snow fall accumulation has risen so much, but they were more sporadic. Now, you get these blockbuster snow storms that are dropping feet of snow rather than inches. Not to say these types of events never occurred before, they did, they just weren't so frequent. |
