Re: Coronavirus - Thread #7

I hope they fully recover. I don't know how good the original vaccine doses work at this point if you don't have the original booster. Or if you haven't had the most recent bivalent booster.

Some people don't want to get them and I'm one of the ones just waiting until I am able to again.

Still just people 65 and older, and those immunocompromised, for second updated booster:

My dad got his a few months ago.

I really hope we soon get to the point where we can get them when we want them, yearly, or every 6 months if needed if they don't last a full year. I always get my flu shot each year. A sore arm for a day or so and I've done what I can to protect myself. It feels good to do it.

The effects of long Covid can be horrible.

I follow someone on YouTube that has had long Covid for a year:

(That Twitter profile seems to work when logged out for me, but the timeline is not in the proper order for some reason.)

No one knows how they will be impacted by it until they get it. You can be young and healthy and get serious complications or die.

I still haven't had Covid and really want to try not to. Or if I do get it, hopefully I will have had a recent shot so that it will likely not be as bad.

There were some recent articles about a slight uptick in cases:
https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/28/health/summer-cold-covid-19/index.html

https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklyhospitaladmissions_select_00
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklydeaths_select_00

But it is very slight.

Note about the most recent weekly death data, which I guess I missed when they made this change:

Death data are displayed by date of death (event). This is a change from the surveillance data used previously in COVID Data Tracker which were displayed by date of report.

"Data during recent periods are incomplete because of the lag in time between when a death occurs and when a death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS, and processed for reporting. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction. The most recent 3 weeks of mortality counts are shaded grey and mortality rates shown as dotted lines because NVSS reporting is <95% during this period.

New hospitalizations are up slightly, from 6,294 to 7,109 over three week period ending July 15th. Very low though still, for now.

I still almost always wear a mask. In the past two months I haven't as much. In late May and in June I was visiting my sister in Alabama. She had found out that her breast cancer had spread and less than three weeks later she died at age 58. Me and my dad tried to wear a mask as much as possible, but at times when we weren't close to someone we didn't. We ate McDonalds a lot and when we ate it there, we would briefly take our masks off to eat there if there was no one around. (first time eating at a restaurant in over three years) Then put them back on. We had to sleep in the same house with our masks off. (but we did try to wear them at all other times there, other than when eating) Of course when she had earlier been at the hospital we wore a mask too. Eventually she went on Hospice at home. I would like to add that people should always take care of their health. Get vaccinated. Get annual physicals. Women should get mammograms when recommended. They should usually be free with insurance. The first mammogram my sister got was at age 56 when she had a large lump in her breast. (and she was a former nurse that had to quit during the pandemic because she was susceptible to things throughout her life) She also had terrible doctors that I feel contributed to her death, but that's another story. (and she smoked throughout her adult life, for around 40 years) But I will say, get a second opinion or change doctors if your doctor refuses to listen to you. (and they lie about your interactions with them, though by then it was too late) My dad always says you are your best advocate. Many years ago he had asked his doctor about getting a colonoscopy, which people should get too. The doctor at his routine physical was like, sure, if you want one you can get one. He did and they found colon cancer that they caught very early and treated successfully.

In the past week I went to visit some family in Tennessee and stayed with my aunt. (found out I had drywood termites and I had to vacate my house while it was tented. last year it was subterranean termites that we had to treat, without a tent, after doing damage to cabinets in our garage) It's just too difficult to wear a mask when staying at someone's house. But when visiting my 98 year old great aunt for a few hours, I certainly did wear a mask. And I do going to grocery stores or whenever I am around people, other than if I have to stay at their house. Unless an unexpected trip comes up, it will likely be another year before I am again without a mask staying at someone's house. It's very rare to see someone wearing a mask. Now that I think about it, I might not have ever saw it in Alabama or Tennessee, other than some at the hospital in Alabama. Even at home in Tampa when grocery shopping recently, I don't recall any masks. Usually 95% or more don't, but can't remember any this time. You just don't hear about the coronavirus much at all any more. I do wonder what the winter will be like when we get further out from when the people who did get vaccinated will have had more time pass since their vaccination. And that's not even counting any new variants that will pop up. But I get people have to live their lives. But it would be nice if they would do it having gotten the vaccine and boosters that they can get. (and flu vaccine too) Too many crazy people ranting on social media about crazy things have caused too many people to lose what common sense they may have had.
