TWC does not post the line. Additionally, they display their own cone too, not the official NHC cone. They have their own mets come up with a cone, which makes it very confusing. Depending on what channel you watch, you might or might not be in the cone. The only way to know if you are in the cone is to look at the NHC's site. It should be that they either use the official cone or have on the screen that it is not the NHC's error cone. (TWC makes their cone too narrow a lot of times which always reminds me that they still don't get that the point of the cone is to reflect uncertainty)
TWC should read this page: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutcone.shtml
"Based on forecasts over the previous 5 years, the entire track of the tropical cyclone can be expected to remain within the cone roughly 60-70% of the time."
If you see TWC's cone on TV, you would be mighty confused, because that does not apply to their cone. I'm not sure if they have some statistical methodology or if they rate each storm's uncertainty by itself and make the cone narrower or wider based on the models. |
