I'm bracing... I'm the biologist for the Town of Fort Myers Beach and turtle season begins Saturday. I also have a colony of shorebirds laying eggs as we speak, a spill would be tragic for them. The ecosystem already took a huge hit from this winter, tens of thousands of fish and hundreds of manatees dead. If the spill continues, I doubt we will be unaffected. The GOM is a gyre and I would bet we get something. I started coordinating with USCG today, I suspect we may get our ICS system up next week depending on conditions. |
