This wave is certainly an anomaly but one anomaly does not a dangerous season make. I do not think that a single premature Cape Verde wave confirms "all of our fears and misgivings."

I'd say that if we get two named storms this month then yes, we have reason to start getting anxious.

And if this thing doesn't find some latitude in a hurry it's well on its way to becoming a crash test dummy.
