Now that I'm more willing to go along with. You and I both know that a CV wave this healthy this soon is so premature as to suggest that the CV region may be geared for prime time this season.
That said, just about every year for the past several years we've seen June posts on this board noting unusually strong waves coming off the African coast. But none of those seasons turned out to be classic Cape Verde years--the vast majority of CV systems that emerged later in those seasons met their match with wind shear.
In my view we have not seen a truly classic CV season since the historic summer of 1995. We've had fits and starts since then like Isabelle, but really I have not seen a classic CV train of storms in 15 years.
One caveat though is that rules of thumb are not automatic equations--such as dry Mays in Florida or hot seas in spring. Ridges evolve, wind shear overpowers warm waters, but maybe this year will not be quite so given to mercy. |
