1979 eh! Major storms that year which (as you know in Al) had a tremendous effect in both the US and the Carribean. I remember David and Frederick (two powerful hurricanes) stalking the tropics as the same time that year. We well know Frederick, and David too for that matter in the SE, but David was at its worst in the Carribean when thousands died from the strike of that upper level Cat 4 in the Dominican Republic. You're right, you can't judge an entire season by one early season wave, but its not a good sign is it. Especially in a year predicted to have 17-23 (23!!!!) storms, and SST's warmer in the deep tropics at this point in the season than I can ever recall in the past. |
