Hype or real....

I live in Panama City Beach, specifically 1 mile from the coast in Laguna Beach. We are leaving town tomorrow aka evacuating. We are under a mandatory evacuation. Many of my neighbors, coworkers are saying this is all hype. I am leaving. Why do folks purposely put themselves in danger?
