Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa

Well, whaddya know? Apparently the possibility of a mid-week visit by this storm to our tropical paradise was ... malarky. ;)

We're not out of the Thai Rain God's woods yet, but Prapiroon HAS made the the turn predicted by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and is now headed to Northeast! SO sorry I doubted you, JTWC - you guys rock! As it gets into the relatively cooler water, Prapiroon's also starting to fizzle and is now "only" posting sustained winds of 85 knots. That's still strong enough to relocate the debris you still have sitting in your front yard from Jelawat - if it hit us. But you should probably stop hoping for that and just clean it up. :)

Don't get TOO comfy, though; the Japan Meteorological Agency track still projects this storm to get a bit closer to Okinawa - and we're going to feel some effects in any case. Weather-Guesser Extraordinaire, Lieutenant Alex Jones of the Navy Oceanography Aviation Detachment here on Okinaw
a, is pretty sure we'll see some VERY rainy and windy weather tonight and tomorrow morning - but it'll just be the outer bands of Prapiroon as it passes 300 miles to the east.

Or turns. Again. Just sayin'.

Stay tuned, stay safe! Stormy
